CSL Behring Contributes to COVID-19 Fight—And You Can, Too

CSL Behring was founded more than a century ago with the promise to save lives—and that promise has taken on new urgency in the past few months. As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, CSL Behring, a global biotherapeutics company whose work includes developing plasma-derived, recombinant and cell/gene therapies, is leveraging its expertise to help those affected by the virus.
CSL Behring recently helped launch the CoVIg-19 Plasma Alliance, an unprecedented partnership of the world's leading plasma companies, with the goal of accelerating a potential treatment. Rather than pursue individual research, the Alliance is putting public and patient health first by working together to develop a hyperimmune treatment produced from plasma donated by people who have recovered from COVID-19.
Plasma, the pale, yellow liquid portion of blood that consists mainly of water and proteins, helps the body control bleeding and infection. Donated plasma can be processed into a various life-saving treatments that help thousands of people every day—and it could be used in a potential treatment for those diagnosed with COVID-19. Human plasma cannot be made in a lab or by artificial methods, which is why plasma donations are so important.
Additionally, the CoVig-19 Alliance is one of several coalitions, academic medical institutions and healthcare companies who have come together to launch "THE FIGHT IS IN US" campaign. The effort, with technical and advisory support from The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Lasker Foundation, Survivor Corps and Microsoft, encourages those who have recovered from COVID-19 to donate their plasma.
