This morning Speaker Pelosi did not mince words. When asked about the importance of the multiple economic and budgetary votes this week in the House and Senate, she said, “...if we are going to be really Building Back Better we have to give women the opportunity to work in the workplace and that's about childcare, home health care, universal pre-K, family medical leave. Other developed countries have that, we don't, we will. Each one of those is something we have fought over the years for, and now it's coming together in a way that is transformative, not incremental. This legislation is about jobs - preeminent in the world - and green technologies addressing the health issues of clean air, clean water for our children.... national security globally where migrations occur because of drought and famine and natural disasters so people are competing for habitat and resources and of course our moral responsibility for our children".
There is not a lot more we can add here, except to say, let's all do better, stop checking the box on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility and be accountable for all our collective success. You can show your support for women in the workplace by sending an email to your local Senate representative with a short personal story on how changes in the Build Back Better Act will positively impact your household or your organization.
