Biotechnology: the use of living organisms or biological processes to develop useful agricultural, industrial, or medical products. BioTech promises to solve a great number of problems, ranging from product efficiency to reducing global warming to revolutionary diagnoses of diseases.

But BioTech also faces significant challenges-ranging from legislation to declining public perception to security and privacy needs. And how has the pandemic impacted the industry?

This panel will paint an insightful picture of the good and the bad, and discuss how technology is enabling business.

Bindu Garapaty, Psy.D., is Director of Talent Development and Inclusion at Gilead Sciences, a biotechnology company that delivers life-saving therapies to patients in need. As a true believer in the human potential, Bindu finds herself �"at the intersection of happiness, human behavior, and leadership.” With a doctorate degree in clinical psychology and an entrepreneurial spirit, she is also the co-founder and CEO of The Happy Leader, LLC. Bindu infuses evidence-based practices and lessons learned from her leadership experience in health care, corporate, academia, for-profit and non-profit organizations, to empower leaders to find their intersection of happiness, meaning, and impact. At Gilead Sciences, Bindu currently leads the global mentoring /coaching program, and serves as an organizational development consultant in talent development and inclusion.

Karyn Brooks is Portfolio and Program Manager at Genentech, a biotechnology company that discovers, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medicines to treat patients with serious or life-threatening medical conditions. In her role, Karyn is accountable for governance, planning, and communication processes for US Commercial, Medical Affairs & Government Affairs Informatics, and collaborating with Business Partners that result in planned predictable delivery and implementation of Strategic, Agile, and Iterative projects that focus on speed to market products and positive end user experience. A passionate leader focused on delivering user focused solutions, connecting people, and influencing change, Karyn is a Certified Organizational Change Manager, Stanford Advanced Project Manager, ScrumMaster, and Sigma Green Belt with over 20 years’ experience delivering key-strategic priority programs with aggressive schedules.

Rohit Saini is Senior Director of Supply Chain at Guardant Health, a leading precision oncology company dedicated to helping conquer cancer through proprietary blood tests, vast data sets, and advanced analytics. Rohit is a supply chain executive who grew the organization from being the first employee to a team of 10+ with 10X the revenue, and FDA readiness in three years. He is a well-travelled global executive with over 20 years of experience in Supply Chain, as well as 15+ years of strategic supplier management and contract negotiations resulting in long-term partnerships and cost reductions. Rohit has extensive and diversified experience in the Biotech, Semiconductor, Hi-Tech, and EMS/CM Industries.

Ashley Scott is Product and Program Manager at Bolt Threads. She is an engineer by training who has transitioned into project and product management throughout her seven years in the biotech industry. Ashley began her career at Bolt Threads, a materials platform company, first as process engineer developing a vegan silk protein production process; then became a technical project manager, driving tech transfer and scale-up with contract manufacturers and partners. Ashley then transitioned into managing the manufacturing and operations for Eighteen B, a skincare brand under the Bolt Threads umbrella, and is now a product and program manager for the vegan silk protein pipeline with the dream of bringing more of this bioengineered ingredient into the beauty and personal care markets.
