SPEAKER:
Maureen Chew, CIO of the Massachusetts Department of Education (DOE), manages the Information Technology and Services Unit. This Unit provides a stable and secure infrastructure for custom software applications aimed at DOE staff, school districts, educators and the public. The Unit is also responsible for data collections on students, educators and school districts and providing data analysis and reporting information. Recently, the Educator Licensure and Recruitment (ELAR) system won a 2002 NASCIO Award and was responsible for this year’s online recertification of over 65,000 educators. Currently, Maureen sits on the Massachusetts CIO “Kitchen Cabinet” and is a member of the Massachusetts Education Technology Advisory Council.

Maureen's state career includes positions as Senior Policy Advisor at the MA Information Technology Division and the Legislative Liaison on IT issues. She was successful in coordinating the passage of the $302 million dollar Information Technology Bond (IT Bond) and the $89 million dollar Educational Technology Bond. Further, Maureen has also served as the Project Manager for the Mass Trial Courts and as Executive Director of the Criminal History Systems Board.

Maureen has held private sector positions with AT&T and State Street Research and Management Co. She holds a Masters Degree from Boston University and Bachelor of Science Degree from Boston State College.

Marina I. Hatsopoulos, (M.S., Massachusetts Institute of Technology), CEO, Director, and Co-Founder of Z Corporation, is Chair of the Committee of Finance and Investment of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a 120,000-member organization for the technology community. She serves on the Advisory Board of the Nantucket Conference, an invitation-only technology event, and the Board of Overseers of the Boston Children's Museum. She received Mass. High Tech's All-Star Award for Hardware and is a two-time finalist for Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Her background was in corporate finance at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, and held several operational roles at various Thermo Electron divisions.

Patricia M. Pomerleau, CEO and founder of CEOExpress Company, has developed a new concept in accessing information on the Internet. She is the creator and executive editor of CEOExpress, (www.ceoexpress.com), one of the most frequented business web sites for executives on the Internet. Pomerleau’s position on technology is that the only thing that matters is communication, whether you are using a phone, a computer, a Blackberry or a tin cup and string. One needs to map the mind of an end user and then build the technology to that pattern. Whether you are working with teenagers, executives, moms or teachers, the person driving the technology has to totally relate to the end user.

Patricia’s past expertise encompasses industries from finance and insurance to healthcare, where she is recognized as an authority on the impact of emerging technologies on the future of American healthcare. She has over 20 years of senior management experience in information-driven industries. Prior to founding CEOExpress Company, she served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of South Shore Hospital, Weymouth, MA. In addition to her management experience, Pomerleau served on the Board of Directors of Bradlees, Inc. a publicly held retail chain, and she is a partner in PF Partnership, a commercial real estate holding company. She is a member of the Georgetown University Board of Governors where she chairs the technology committee. Patricia holds an MS from Boston University and BS from Georgetown University.

Leslie Lambert, Vice President, Information Technology & Chief Information Security Officer at Sun Microsystems, Inc.

Lambert joined Sun in 1992. During her tenure at Sun Lambert's roles have included Vice President of Demand Creation Systems IT, as well as Vice President of both the iPlanet and Software Systems Group divisions at Sun. Other key IT roles have included: Director of Information Technology for Sun Express, JavaSoft, and Microelectronics, Sun IT Enterprise Architect, and Director of Internet Commerce.

Leslie has 25 years of experience in both Information Technology and technical/business infrastructure. Her experiences range from Control Systems Design to the delivery of IT systems and infrastructure.

Prior to Sun, Lambert was with Intergraph Corp. and Fluor Daniel in key Customer Engineering, IT, and Control Systems design roles. Her experience covers the industries of engineering and construction, evaluation research, CAD/CAE, Information Technology, and customer training, where she gained significant hands on operational, architectural, and management experience.

Leslie holds an MBA with an emphasis in Marketing and Finance, as well as an MA and BA in Experimental Psychology. She also has degrees in Mathematics and Engineering Technology, and has completed graduate-level study in Computer Science.
