Bio of one who is tenacious, persistent and relentless - Janet Laurel

"Janet Laurel was initially diagnosed with advanced breast cancer in 1995, then with Stage IV metastatic disease in 1998. Initially given two years to live - no matter what conventional treatment she chose to do. Janet, an avid investigator, was determined to maintain a good quality of life, despite extensive conventional treatment. Through experience she has become an expert in the palliative use of complementary and alternative medicine to buffer the harsh side effects of conventional treatment.

In 1998, when diagnosed with a terminal condition, Janet founded Cherubim Foundation to encourage cancer patients to engage appropriate integrative care so they too could enjoy greater health and vitality. Cherubim's Project Hope is the first in the nation to provide counsel and financial assistance to cancer patients for integrative health services. Since 2001 Project Hope has helped 100 women gain access to quality integrative medical care not covered by insurance.

Through Cherubim's website and an educational program called "Wellness U!" Janet's message and model for health has touched thousands of lives. Tenacious, persistent and relentless, Janet has written an inspirational book about her amazing journey appropriately titled, "Heart and Soul: What it Takes to Promote Health While Confronting Cancer."

Janet is a visionary, a pioneer, an explorer, a role model, as well as an advocate for anyone who wants to find new paths to greater physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health and well-being. She has accomplished the impossible task of making a life threatening disease into a manageable chronic illness.

While currently in treatment, Janet is working as a psychotherapist, speaker, and as volunteer director for Cherubim Foundation. Yoga, playing music, reading and writing, gardening, walks with her husband and three terriers take up the rest of Janet's time.
