Women in Consulting: Opportunities & Challenges



As an information technology consultant, you are the expert that deliver solutions to meet the business objectives of your customers/clients. Companies hire consultants when their inside expertise, talent and or resources are lacking in particular areas, such as cloud applications and computing, security and AI. Many organizations require that consultants have the relevant credentials within specific technology spaces. There are challenges being a consultant such as staying on top of the latest and greatest technologies, customers/clients expecting a know-it-all and consultants being used for staff augmentation for example. Being a woman in IT consulting, however, comes with its own set of challenges. I will discuss:

- Why consulting and what it is like being a woman in this specific area within IT?
- Important statistics regarding the roles women play in IT consulting, especially women of color
- Debunking myths in regards to IT consultants in general
- Challenges that are specific to women in IT consulting
