Women at the Top

Myrna Soto and Toni Thorburn are coming to WITI to discuss with us their experiences throughout their careers. They will discuss their best and most challenging experiences of being a Woman At the Top and what influenced them along the way. They will discuss topics from how they began their careers to lessons learned. They will also share with us their advice for women who would like to be future leaders. This will be an exiting event!

Myrna Soto MBA, MS, PMP is Vice President IT Governance & CISO
MGM MIRAGE. Her areas of focus include Information Security (Data/Network), IT Audit & Compliance, Business Analysis, PMO (Project Management Office) and the development of a Six Sigma practice within the Information Technology Department. She is responsible for the design and development of a comprehensive Information Security program. She is currently developing a strategy to consolidate and standardize the Information Security process with the potential of leveraging capabilities to increase perimeter/data security coverage. Myrna is also responsible for Information Technology compliance and audit activities.

Myrna joined the company in 2004 as Corporate Director of Solutions for Mandalay Resort Group. She went on to serve as Vice President of Business Solutions & PMO in 2005, where she designed and marketed the Business Solutions concept to Senior Management and successfully built a solutions practice for several verticals. In addition to the solutions practice, she successfully gained endorsement to pursue a formal PMO Governance structure within MGM MIRAGE Information Technology, which included the investment and deployment of a PPM/PMO tool set.

Prior to joining MGM MIRAGE, Myrna served as Senior Director of Strategic Projects/PMO for Broadspire, a division of Kemper Insurance Companies. She also served in senior technology leadership roles for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and American Express. Her career began with Norwegian Cruise Lines where she held several operational management roles.

Myrna holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida International University as well as a Master of Science degree in Industrial Psychology and a Master of Business Administration degree from Nova Southeastern University. Myrna also holds a Masters Certification in Project Management from George Washington University and is a Certified Project Management Professional.

Toni Thorburn, C.E.O. / Chairman of the Board, Aspen Communications
Toni Thorburn has 18 years of PBX, VOIP and telephone integration
management experience involving installation, programming and
integration of voicemail, wired and wireless office technology,
culminating in the founding of a significant, successful
telecommunications and business technology company. Aspen Communication
Enterprises was founded by Toni in May 2001. Seeing tremendous
opportunity as a female in the field, Toni obtained her low voltage
contractor's license in 2002. Structured cabling is now a successful
portion of Aspen's business. She is directly involved with the strategic
management and planning for the company, as well as daily operations and
customer service.

Aspen Communications is a Business Technology Solution provider in
voice, data and video services. Aspen is licensed, bonded and insured.
