Guest Speaker Event: Deep Learning & Its Applications

In the recent years deep learning has led to huge success in a variety of areas such as speech recognition, image classification, and machine translation. In this talk, Dr. Yu will describe the core concepts and design principles in deep learning using some recent advances as examples and illustrate the importance of optimization strategy in building deep learning systems.

Dr. Dong Yu is a principal researcher at Microsoft Research. His research has been focusing on speech recognition and applications of machine learning techniques. He has published two monographs and over 160 papers in these areas and is the inventor/co-inventor of over 60 granted/pending patents. Dr. Dong Yu is currently serving as a member of the IEEE Speech and Language Processing Technical Committee (2013-).
