Carolyn Leighton This year marks the 11th year since WITI held the first WITI Conference in 1995 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. The buzz was huge; everyone told us they were blown away by the scale, the enthusiasm and the soul of WITI. Until WITI held its first conference, women were used to going to women's events held on a much smaller scale. Gloria Steinem was the keynote speaker, and she shared a message of focussing on developing technology to make the world a better place.

The WITI Hall Of Fame 10th Anniversary

Every year, the Women in Technology Foundation holds its annual WITI Hall of Fame event, as a fund raiser to raise awareness of the accomplishments of women in science and technology, to encourage young girls to pursue careers in technology and to encourage all women to become technology literate.

The winners of the WITI Hall of Fame Award, selected by an independent panel of judges, are extraordinary women who stand as important role models for future generations of women. Please join us in demonstrating your support and respect for these women's notable achievements.

The 2005 inductees are:

Barbara Bauer, vice president software engineering and development, Sun Microsystems, known for spearheading several advanced projects that have redefined technology roadmaps, while also volunteering to serve as president for Girls Count, a non-profit Colorado-based coalition formed to promote mathematical, science and technology education among female students.

Sonja Bernhardt, chief executive officer, Thoughtware Australia, a champion of IT within her home country who's largely credited with leading wide-scale programs that created professional and academic development opportunities, thus helping thousands of school students and hundreds of professionals within Australia's IT industry.

Sandra E. Burke, Ph.D, manager of Cardiovascular Systems Research at Abbott Vascular Devices, who is being honored for her research into drug-coated intravascular stents for the treatment of restenosis (the re-narrowing of arteries) - a cardiovascular device that promises a significant improvement for surgical procedures to heart patients.

Melendy Lovett, president, Texas Instruments Educational & Productivity Solutions, the first woman in that company's history to be named business President, and founder of the Women of Texas Instruments Fund, an organization that expands math, science and technology education opportunities for young females.

Amparo Moraleda Martinez, president, IBM Spain, Portugal, Greece, Israel and Turkey, who has been voted "The Most Valued Executive Woman" in Spain and among the top IT business leaders in EMEA.

Neerja Raman, director, Imaging Systems Lab of Hewlett Packard, where she leads her team in creating the strategic vision and technology roadmap for the company's innovative camera and ink-jet products, among others.
