Dr. Natalia Trayanova

Dr. Natalia Trayanova is the Murray B. Sachs professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University and a professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She directs the Alliance for Cardiovascular Diagnostic and Treatment Innovation as well as the Computational Cardiology Laboratory.

Dr. Trayanova is the primary innovator and trailblazer in the use of modern computation and modeling approaches in cardiac arrhythmia research and in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with heart rhythm disorders. Through her first-of-their-kind personalized virtual hearts, she is pioneering advances in personalized medicine for patients with cardiovascular disease.

The year is 2020, the Covid pandemic hits and the world shuts. Like many other countries, Kenya (which is where I am from and currently living) experiences a countrywide lockdown and everything comes to a stand still. At the time I am working as an environmental impact auditor for an NGO based in Nairobi. As fate would have it (and the obvious impact the pandemic would have) I lose my job.
