"After being of service to others for 40 years in the restaurant business, going into the healing arts felt like a natural progression," says Yoga Nidra facilitator Rich Brenner. "When I retired, I had a deep desire to really help people on a more personal level."

To that end, Rich began his journey into the healing arts. He brought the same compassion and love of people that served him in the hospitality business. He also brought the same tenacity and focus that won accolades for his businesses: Highland Grounds Coffeehouse (Best Coffeehouse LA, LA Weekly), Hugo's Restaurants, (Best Small Business award, state of California and numerous Best Breakfast awards) and Hugo's Tacos (35 Best Tacos in America, The Daily Meal).

He studied Restorative Hypnotherapy, yoga, meditation, and elements of Energy and Vibrational therapies before settling on the ancient practice of Yoga Nidra as his specialty.

Yoga Nidra, which means "sleep with awareness," is a guided relaxation practice that simultaneously activates cellular repair and full body-mind awareness. It includes a combination of breath-work, body consciousness, Sankalpa (a personal intention or mantra) and visualization.

Yoga Nidra was scientifically developed thousands of years ago to disengage the mind from its daily routine. During a session, the facilitator continually reminds the practitioner to remain still but awake, while guiding them through a series of feelings, sensations and visualizations. The body responds by going deeply into a relaxed state.

"We are in a time of very high anxiety and people need to reach deeper levels of relaxation to counter it," Rich says.

His Yoga Nidra clients include personal trainers, artists, writers, directors, business people, therapists, teachers and musicians, among others. He has also provided free sessions for many of his essential workers in the restaurants.

"It gives me great joy to provide this service to anyone who needs it," Rich says.
