What do we tell our kids when they can't go to school because of the coronavirus pandemic?

This story follows a parent and child engaging in an open conversation about how to navigate the sudden change in routine that the global pandemic has caused. It answers questions about what a pandemic is, how to keep safe and clean at home and in the community, and how to adapt to learning at home. Mommy, why can't I go to school? provides an easy and fun way for parents to explain this unexpected disruption to their young children and teach them how to protect themselves and others from the virus.

The storytelling transforms what can be a scary subject into a calming, encouraging, and educational tale that your little ones will ask to read again and again. I wrote this story to help families and educators educate their children and students in a positive, loving way of what the Pandemic is, how to practice safety habits- washing hands and wearing mask, and 4 simple tips on how to work together as a team at home and in school.

I am a loving mother of two, a wife to a supportive husband, a woman of faith, and an educator. Mommy, Why Can't I Go To School? is my debut children's book. I am excited to finally have the opportunity to follow my dreams with this newfound second career. I'm a P-3 Certified teacher and I'm currently an Early Childhood Educator. My degree in Psychology and Early Childhood Education has helped me navigate experiences as an educator in all inclusion classrooms, early childhood classes and when working with children with disabilities.

I stated that she was amazed how God, by bestowing this story upon me, brought something positive out of this sudden change in the world and embracing the "new normal.” I hope that the bilingual story in Mommy, why can't I go to school? will encourage parents to engage in an open conversation with their children about the sudden, scary shift caused by the ever-looming presence of the pandemic. My book will help children to embrace change, be proactive with a safety and cleanliness plan and work as a team during virtual learning.
