WITI is Featured in FastCompany

The annual WITI Girl's Contest is featured in Fast Company in an article by Adrian Ott called, Instead of Taking Your Daughters to Work, Introduce Them to Technology.

Adrian points out, "It's well documented that girls need more exposure to tech and science careers--they also need more female role models. Why is it that we can easily name legends such as Gates, Jobs, Dell, and Zuckerberg for their technical contributions? Yet most people cannot name the woman who saved millions of lives by inventing Kevlar (Stephanie Kwolek). Or the Nobel Laureate who invented radioimmunoassay (RIA) testing that revolutionized medical research (Rosalyn S. Yalow). Or the woman who founded the first word processing company, Redactron, in 1969 (Evelyn Berezin)."

The WITI Girl's Contest addresses this issue by encouraging girls participate in a virtual treasure hunt to find fast facts about the amazing women featured in the WITI Hall of Fame. More technology luminaries will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this summer during the WITI Summit celebration. Winning girls will join their Moms at the Hall of Fame awards ceremony.

May Means Mother's Day - and Technology

May might make you think of Mother's Day and celebrating Mom, but Mom is a heavy technology user because that's how her day-to-day needs are served.

According to research company, comScore, "Women ARE the digital mainstream… In the U.S., currently the largest e-commerce market in the world, women are the key drivers of online buying. More women than men transact on the Internet and, collectively, they spend more." Women make an estimated 85% of all consumer purchase decisions and approximately 90% of the healthcare decisions for their families too. Increasingly, women rely on technology to get things done quickly, easily and accurately.

Think of your latest "find." It's more likely to be a new technology of some kind than a cool pair of shoes! Today's top apps make Mom's life easier and better. Give Mom a present she'll truly cherish by loading these five helpful apps on her iphone!

AroundMe: Toggle categories like restaurants, pharmacies, hospitals and more to see what's closest to you.
