How To Network

Networking is truly the way Portland and much of the US does business. Success rates are far higher with referrals than with cold calls. Whether the purpose is making sales, finding a new job, gathering information or simply meeting great people, networking can be fun and valuable.

Come learn how to increase your odds of success through some helpful tips followed by practical experience networking with other attendees in short, practical exercises.

Please bring at least 15 business cards, a pen and wear something with two pockets.

Jan Foster is a sales professional with over 25 years of direct selling experience. She has represented Planet Productions, a developer of interactive web-based training programs, for over three years. She works with clients including OHSU, Nike, Powell’s Books, Kaiser, HP and others and is responsible for bringing in new clients and ensuring that existing clients are satisfied.

Jan has an extensive sales background including 18 years with Xerox Corporation in Chicago and Portland where she learned consultative selling skills. She has also represented companies selling e-commerce software and high-end web site development services.

Jan has spoken on how to network and has started two job support groups based on the idea that networking is the best way to find a new position. She uses networking every day in her sales activities and keeping in touch with her many contacts.
