With the New Year fast approaching, this is a time when many of us think about the past year, the year to come and all the changes we've made or hope to make in the future.
Taking a cue from Martha Mangelsdorf's popular Boston Globe columm "Transitions," WITI's Holiday event looks at some facinating area executives and what significant transitions they have made in their work lives.
Come and hear why friends and colleagues refer to Karen Maguire, President of Satuit Technologies, as a true Renaissance woman who has the ability to easily reinvent herself and her career. And, learn how Sean Hurley, President of SMH Fine Foods, Inc., went from techie to entrepreneur, and how Mary Duggan has used tenacity and perseverance to try her hand at several professions - from scientist to business development executive to corporate trainer. All with much success.

Martha Mangelsdorf, Moderator, writes the Boston Globe's "Transitions" column.
Mary Duggan - Duggan calls transition just another way to bring diversification to her career portfolio. She has held a chemist position at DuPont and been a corporate trainer for Waters Chromatography, Millipore and PerSeptive BioSystems. Her first big transition was to the software industry, where she held a business development position with Lotus/ IBM for three years and then was the Director of Technical Support for Vality Technology (data warehouse software) for another three years.
The next transition was back to science for a brief time to work on drug discovery software for ArQule. After that, it was a transition to free lance work, which ranged from creating documentation for scientific information storage software to selling compliance training to HR organizations. Today, she is a Director in Technology for a major Financial Services company.
Duggan has also run a small non-profit theater company (Improv Boston) and still creates improve workshops. She currently volunteers as a guide at the Harvard Museum of Natural History and is working as much as possible with Women’s technology organizations.
Duggan has an undergraduate degree in Entomology from Purdue University and a Masters degree in Communication from Emerson College.

Karen Maguire - Dr. Maguire is President and one of the founders of Satuit Technologies, Inc. She is also the chief architect behind SatuitCRM, Satuit's leading edge sales force automation (SFA) and client relationship management (CRM) solution for investment professionals.
Dr. Maguire is a well known sales consultant who has worked with some of the world's largest and most successful fund managers. She was previously Managing Director of Marketing for the Bank of Boston's institutional investment division, Dewey Square Investors and has extensive experience in institutional investment sales.
Dr. Maguire has also been a frequent speaker on sales strategy and sales technology at investor and financial services conferences, including AIMSE, IIR, IMI, IFE, Schwab Institutional Conference, Bank Marketing Association, and the Virginia Banker's Association.
Dr. Maguire earned her Ph.D. in modern languages (French and Italian) from the University of Connecticut and has taught at both Bowdoin College and Middlebury College. She also attended the MBA program at New York University School of Business Administration where she majored in finance.

Sean Hurley - Hurley is President of SMH Fine Foods, Inc. Founded in January 2002, their flagship product, Hurley’s Boston Soda Breads, are unique artisan breads baked individually in seasoned cast iron skillets. Available in a variety of flavors, the breads are available in over 300 gourmet shops, restaurants, exceptional specialty stores, and fine tea and coffee houses throughout the United States.
SMH is located in Boston and employs six people. Sean is also a board member of the Massachusetts Specialty Foods Association.

From Western MA:
Take the Mass. Pike (Route 90) East to exit #24A (South Station)
Follow Atlantic Ave. until you can take a left on Essex Street
One Financial Center is on the corner of Atlantic Ave. and Essex St.
From Points North: (for those coming from Route 93, the Tobin Bridge and the Callahan Tunnel.)
Take the Southeast Expressway (93 South) and get off at the South Station/Chinatown exit #22 (exit from left lane)
At end of off-ramp, turn left at traffic signal onto South Street
Take a left onto Essex Street at first traffic light
One Financial Center will be on the left.
From Points South:
Take the Southeast Expressway (93 North) to exit #20 (Worcester/Logan RTE 90 - South Station)
Follow signs for South Station
Follow Atlantic Ave. until you can take a left on Essex Street
One Financial Center is on the corner of Atlantic Ave. and Essex Street
Parking Tips: Parking is available in the One Financial Center parking garage (617-348-8384 - entrance on Essex Street). There is also a parking lot on Essex Street and a parking garage at the corner of Beach and Lincoln Streets as well as the bus terminal at South Station. Please note parking fees are from $21 to $25 There is also parking at the bus terminal.
