Women Leaders in Venture Capital

For the second year in a row, WITI is proud to feature women in venture capital who are making great strides in the industry. Moderated by Dr. Patti Greene, the Dean of the Undergraduate School at Babson College and recent author of "Clearing the Hurdles: Women Building High Growth Businesses," WITI Boston presents a panel of distinguished leading women, representing different sectors of the venture community, to discuss their varying perspectives, experiences and successes in the venture capital industry.

Patricia G. Greene is Dean of the Undergraduate School at Babson College where she also holds the President’s Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship. She is also an IC2 Fellow �" University of Texas at Austin. Prior to this position, she held the Ewing Marion Kauffman/Missouri Chair in Entrepreneurial Leadership at the University of Missouri �" Kansas City and the New Jersey Chair of Small Business and Entrepreneurship at Rutgers University.

She is a founding member of the Diana Project and Diana International, research groups focusing on women and entrepreneurial growth. The Diana Project’s latest book, Clearing the Hurdles: Women Building High Growth Businesses, was published in Spring 2004.

Dr. Greene earned a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, an MBA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a BS from the Pennsylvania State University.

Panelists:

Daphne Dufresne is a Principal at Weston Presidio. She joined the firm in 1999, following her selection as a 1999 Kauffman Fellow. She is currently involved with the firm’s investments in AtHoc, Insulair and Zoots.

Prior to joining Weston Presidio, Daphne led business development for the online trading platform of Interactive Investor, a London-based financial advisory site.

Daphne is currently on the Board of the Massachusetts Economic Stabilization Trust and Big Brother of Mass Bay. She is also an alumni admissions interviewer for the University of Pennsylvania and a Toigo mentor.

Daphne earned her B.S. in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and her MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business.

Geraldine Alias is an associate at Battery Ventures. She joined Battery in 2002 and focuses on media, e-commerce, and communications investments. Prior to joining Battery, she worked at McKinsey & Company’s Silicon Valley office, where she provided strategic and operational advice to telecommunications and enterprise software companies. Geraldine also co-wrote IP!, a joint McKinsey and JP Morgan industry report analyzing the Internet’s disruption of the telecom services industry. Geraldine graduated from Princeton University with a BSE in Electrical Engineering and received a Certificate in Engineering and Management Systems.

Nilanjana Bhowmik brings over 10 years of experience in operations, strategy and corporate finance to Longworth Venture Partners. Before joining Longworth, Nilanjana held the position of Vice President, Mergers and Acquisitions, at Broadview International where she advised clients on buy and sell side transactions in the infrastructure software, financial technology and information services markets.

Nilanjana participates in several of Longworth’s portfolio companies including iJET Travel Intelligence, Marathon Technologies, Softricity, Inc. and Thor Technologies, Inc.

She received a B.Eng. in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, an MS in Computer Science from the University of South Carolina and an MBA from INSEAD.
